Characteristics: The flowers, five-petalled and white, are rather like large hawthorn blossom but are not borne until late summer or autumn, and then only after a decently warm summer. The flowers have a rich, sweet scent.  The leaves are large, dark green and glossy

Fruit develops over the winter and are similar to an apricot without the fluffy outside and has been compared to  pear that has been soaked in brown sugar

 The fruits are most often eaten fresh, but they are great in milk shakes and cooked dishes as well. The fruit size and tree size can vary according to variety, but all varieties begin to bear fruit at one to two years of age
